NEET Preparation: NCERT-First Physics, Chemistry and Biology
NEET rewards precise knowledge and calm accuracy. Biology alone carries half the marks, and most of it comes straight from NCERT, so a clear plan for reading, revising and practising matters more than a large pile of resources.
Use this page to pick a subject, see what each one covers, and follow a study cycle that turns reading into marks.
Biology is half of NEET, so it is where a plan pays off first
Botany and Zoology together make 90 of the 180 questions, which is 360 of the 720 marks. Physics and Chemistry share the other half equally.
That is why the most useful habit in NEET preparation is unglamorous: read NCERT Biology line by line, learn the diagrams and tables, and revise them on a schedule. Physics then decides how far you can climb, and Chemistry rewards students who treat Physical, Organic and Inorganic as three different skills.
Start with the subject guide
Each guide gathers the lessons, problems and revision material for that subject.
Biology: Botany and Zoology
Human physiology, genetics, ecology, evolution, plant physiology and cell biology, taught for NCERT-level precision.
Open the Biology guide →Physics
Concept first, then formula, then numerical. Learn what each quantity means so units, graphs and signs stop being traps.
Open the Physics guide →Chemistry
Physical Chemistry numericals, Organic Chemistry reasoning and Inorganic Chemistry from NCERT, each needing its own routine.
Open the Chemistry guide →What each subject covers
A topic-level overview to help you organise your study. It is a planning aid, not a replacement for the official NTA syllabus, which is the final word on what can be asked.
Biology (Botany and Zoology)
Class 11 themes
Diversity of the living world; structural organisation in plants and animals; cell structure and function; plant physiology; human physiology.
Class 12 themes
Reproduction; genetics and evolution; biology and human welfare; biotechnology; ecology and environment.
Study tip: keep a running list of terms, exceptions and diagrams for each chapter. NEET Biology questions often turn on one precise word in NCERT.
Physics
Class 11 themes
Units and measurement; kinematics; laws of motion; work, energy and power; rotational motion; gravitation; properties of solids and fluids; thermodynamics; kinetic theory; oscillations and waves.
Class 12 themes
Electrostatics; current electricity; magnetic effects of current and magnetism; electromagnetic induction and alternating current; electromagnetic waves; optics; dual nature of matter and radiation; atoms and nuclei; electronic devices.
Chemistry
Physical
Basic concepts and the mole; atomic structure; states of matter; thermodynamics; equilibrium; redox and electrochemistry; solutions; chemical kinetics.
Inorganic
Periodic classification and trends; chemical bonding; hydrogen; s-block and p-block elements; d- and f-block elements; coordination compounds.
Organic
General organic chemistry; hydrocarbons; haloalkanes and haloarenes; alcohols, phenols and ethers; aldehydes, ketones and carboxylic acids; amines; biomolecules.
Read, recall, practise, correct
A chapter is finished only when you can answer questions on it from memory and explain your mistakes.
-
Read NCERT closely
Read line by line, including captions, tables and boxed text. Mark every term, number and exception you would be caught out on.
-
Build short notes
Reduce the chapter to one or two pages: definitions, diagrams, tables and formulae. This is what you will revise from.
-
Practise by chapter
Solve multiple-choice questions on the chapter while it is fresh, then mix chapters once you have covered a unit.
-
Correct and repeat
For every wrong answer, note the reason and revisit the chapter line it came from. Revise on a fixed schedule, not when you feel like it.
What to focus on at each stage
| Stage | Main focus | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Class 11 | Build foundations in all four subject areas. Make note-making and chapter-wise MCQs a habit early. | Rushing to advanced problems before the basics are solid. |
| Class 12 | Finish the syllabus while keeping Class 11 alive with a weekly revision slot. Balance school and NEET work. | Letting Class 11 chapters fade until the last few months. |
| Repeaters | Diagnose weak chapters from past tests, fix them one at a time, and raise accuracy. | Restarting everything from scratch without a diagnosis. |
| Final 90 days | Revise from your short notes, take full-length tests, and study your error log. | Starting new resources or new topics late. |
How negative marking should change your answers
Each correct answer earns 4 marks and each wrong answer costs 1. Suppose you guess blindly among four options: on average you gain 0.25 × 4 − 0.75 × 1 = 0.25 marks per question. That is close to break-even, so blind guessing is not a strategy.
If you can eliminate two options with confidence, the odds improve to an average of 1.5 marks per attempt. The lesson is to attempt questions where you can reason your way to a shortlist, and to practise elimination deliberately in your MCQ sessions rather than relying on luck.

Tools for practice and revision
Practice questions
Questions with solutions, so you can check your reasoning as well as the answer.
Practise →Sample questions
Short original questions with the reasoning revealed after you try.
Try them →Formula sheets
Physics and Chemistry formulae in one place for quick revision.
Revise →Revision notes
Short, exam-focused notes for the days before a test.
Open notes →Courses and quizzes on Jupiter Science
Once the fundamentals from this page feel solid, these take you further: structured courses and short quizzes to check where you actually stand.

Five common NEET preparation mistakes
- Leaving NCERT for scattered material.Extra resources help only after you can recall NCERT accurately.
- Avoiding Physics numericals.Fear grows with avoidance. A few solved numericals a day removes it.
- Studying a chapter once.Without scheduled revision, most of it fades within weeks.
- Solving MCQs without reviewing the wrong ones. The review is where the learning happens.
- Collecting more books, PDFs and videos than you can finish.A finished resource beats three half-used ones.
NEET preparation FAQ
Short answers for students starting out. For exam rules, always check the official notification.
What is the best way to start NEET preparation?
Start with the syllabus and NCERT. Read one chapter at a time, make short notes, and solve chapter-wise questions. Plan a weekly schedule that includes all four areas: Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology.
Is NCERT enough for NEET Biology?
NCERT is the central text, and NEET Biology questions often follow its wording closely. Read it repeatedly, learn the diagrams and tables, and practise questions so you know how NCERT facts are tested.
How can I improve in NEET Physics?
Understand what each formula means, check units, and learn to read graphs. Solve numericals in small daily doses instead of postponing them.
Can I prepare for NEET along with Class 12 boards?
Yes. The syllabuses overlap strongly. Keep a weekly slot for Class 11 revision and see the board exam preparation page for school-paper material.
How many hours should I study?
It depends on your stage and school schedule. Consistency, revision quality and error analysis matter more than a fixed number of hours.
How do I avoid losing marks to negative marking?
Improve certainty by revising common mistakes, and practise eliminating options. Attempt questions where you can reason to a shortlist, and skip those where you cannot narrow the choices at all.
Pick one chapter and finish it properly this week.
Read it, make the notes, solve the questions, correct the errors. Then do it again with the next chapter.
