Formula sheets
A compact starter reference. Read each condition before using a formula and practise applying it to a question.
Physics formulas
| Topic | Relationship | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Uniform acceleration | v = u + at; s = ut + ½at²; v² = u² + 2as | Constant acceleration along the chosen axis. |
| Force | Fnet = ma | Constant mass in an inertial frame. |
| Kinetic energy | K = ½mv² | Non-relativistic motion. |
| Ohm’s law | V = IR | Ohmic conductor under fixed physical conditions. |
| Wave speed | v = fλ | f is frequency and λ is wavelength. |
| Photon energy | E = hf = hc/λ | Use wavelength in vacuum for hc/λ. |
Mathematics formulas
| Topic | Relationship | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Quadratic equation | x = (−b ± √(b² − 4ac))/(2a) | ax² + bx + c = 0; a ≠ 0. |
| Trigonometry | sin²θ + cos²θ = 1 | All real θ. |
| Power rule | d(xⁿ)/dx = nxⁿ⁻¹ | On the domain where the power is differentiable. |
| Probability complement | P(A′) = 1 − P(A) | A′ is the complement of A. |
Chemistry formulas
| Quantity | Relationship | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Amount of substance | n = m/M | Match mass units to molar mass units. |
| Molarity | c = n/V | For mol/L, V is final solution volume in litres. |
| Ideal gas | PV = nRT | Ideal-gas approximation; T in kelvin and consistent units for R. |
| Dilution | c₁V₁ = c₂V₂ | Same solute; amount conserved without reaction. |
